Dr. Uschi Eid wasappointed Chair of the United Nations SecretaryGeneral’sAdvisoryBoard on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB) by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in June 2014. Prior to that, sheserved as Vice-Chair of UNSGAB as from 2004, when the Boardwasestablished by former Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Shewas Co-Chair of the 2011 Bonn NexusConference “The Water Energy and Food Security Nexus – Solutions for the Green Economy”, organized by the GermanFederalGovernment as a specific contribution to the 2012 UN Conference on SustainableDevelopment “Rio+20”.
From 1985 to 1990 and from 1994 to 2009, Dr. Eid wasMember of the German Bundestag, initiallyserving as Development Policy Spokeswoman of the Green Parliamentary Group and Vice-Chair of the Committee for EconomicCooperation and Development. LatershewasMember of the ForeignAffairsCommittee and Foreign Cultural Policy Spokeswoman of herParliamentary Group.
From 1998 to 2005, shewasParliamentary State Secretaryat the FederalMinistry for EconomicCooperation and Development, and from 2001 to 2005 Personal G8-Africa Representative of Chancellor Schröder.
Beforeshewaselected to the Germanparliament, Dr. Eid worked as a research assistant at the University of Hohenheim. From 1991 to 1994 sheworked for Deutsche GesellschaftfuerTechnischeZusammenarbeit (GTZ), now GIZ, and Deutsche Ausgleichsbank, nowKfW, in Eritrea, East Africa.
Dr. Eid studieddomestic science at the University of Hohenheim, Germany, University of Wageningen, Netherlands, and Oregon State University, United States. Sheholds a PhD in social sciences.
